Green Procurement
- Source natural fabric and locally produced conference bags.
- Negotiate with Congress Venues to use natural cleaning products for the duration of the conference.
- Source FSC approved paper for notebooks.
- Compressed newspaper used to make pencils (Townhouse has them)

Energy Efficiency
- Make sure that the venues that are booked have sufficient natural light and energy efficient lighting.
- Ask delegates to wear light clothes so that the air conditioner does not need to be on.

Water Conservation
- Promote water conservation across the venue.
- Remind delegates in the programme to conserve water.
- Provide water dispensers and get a sponsor to provide water bottles rather than have plastic water bottles

Waste Management
- Use water dispensers instead of bottled water. The water in South Africa is safe to drink.
- Instead of putting the conference materials into the delegate bags, have a table with the material displayed, so that delegates only need to take the information that is relevant to them, and the rest can be recycled.
- Encourage sponsors and delegates to put their marketing material on memory sticks instead of printing.
- Encourage congress venue to use large sugar bowls at the Tea/Coffee stations instead of paper packet sachets.
- Have a recycle booth in the registration foyer for delegates to recycle unwanted paper.
- Collect lanyards and badges after the conference to donate to a local school.

Food
- Select food that is locally procured, that is in season and organic.
- Choose seafood that has been approved by the South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative, to make sure that the seafood that is chosen is not in danger of becoming extinct.
- Procure food locally to minimize food miles.
- Donate left-over food to a shelter or childrens home

Carbon Emission
- Have a booth at the conference that delegates can visit to calculate their carbon foot print.
- Should they wish to, they can make a voluntary donation to offset their carbon emission.
- The money raised can be used to buy a Solar Power System that can be donated to a Themba Care, our charity for the year.
